Indigo bunting

It is still quiet in the woods, but about mid-morning we could hear a couple of small flocks drop in from overhead, including a flock of buntings. A net round later we had this Indigo bunting in our hands, only our second one of the 2020 season. Usually we catch at least a dozen of them, although we don’t catch nearly as many as we do Painted buntings. Some small mixed flocks of the warblers hanging around onsite passed through the netting area to keep us from getting completely skunked. We may have to wait until Halloween for a change in the weather with a nice front forecast to sweep through the Gulf and Florida. I probably jinxed us by talking about it.
