If you’ve been keeping an eye (or ear) on the trees in Miami-Dade county, you’ve likely noticed some migrants starting to move through last month. Now that the trickle is picking up, we are opening for another season of fall migration banding!
We opened our nets on Labor Day this year and will remain open until the birds have mostly finished passing through (in the first two weeks of November). This season, we are operating on a limited schedule and only opening Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. As a largely volunteer-run operation, this will enable our team to still capture valuable data while prioritizing bird safety and training for new volunteers.
If you’d like to volunteer with us, please fill out this information form so we can get to know you and add you to our waitlist! If you’d like to come and visit the station one of the days that we are open, or have questions about what we do here, please email info@capefloridabandingstation.org to ensure our team has capacity to host you that day. Otherwise, stay tuned for regular updates about what’s in our nets this fall!
