Migration got off to a slow start this fall, but birds finally started moving in decent numbers around Sept 11 and have continued. We banded or recaptured 850 individuals in September of 30 species. Diversity is a little lower than normal as so far we have missed some of the less common species such as Blackburnian and Chestnut-sided warblers. They have been seen onsite but none have been netted. The trees have grown taller and fuller over the years, especially since Hurricane Wilma in 2005, and this is likely influencing our captures. Below is a young female Magnolia warbler banded today.
