When we catch just one new and one recapture Ovenbird it is a pretty good indicator that migration has come to a screeching halt at our location since many of them winter onsite anyways. The near-term forecast is for continued high pressure over our area with southeast winds and very hot temperatures through the next couple of days. I suspect migration has slowed down across the entire southeast; if birds are on the move to the north of us we usually get something trickling through eventually.
For entertainment I’m digging back into the archives to the first year of banding at BBCFSP in 2002. We had 10 nets and a tarp for cover. I banded every day by myself and had a couple curious birders following me around watching what I was doing.

Fast forwards 18 years and we have 20 volunteers and those couple of curious birders are now banders in their own right and part of the foundation of CFBS. Plus we have a real tent and a wood floor!

Love the photos from last century and today’s Covid 19 pandemic bird banding. 😄 Keep up the great work and reporting!
